Bejeweled Mini Hair Clips

Turn dollar store mini hair clips from littly girly to glitzy glam with some paint, jewels and glue.
There are several hairstyles that I want to try where I need several small pins or clips, but the only ones that I found were the kind for little girls and in multi-colors which would clash with most of my outfits, so I decide to glam them up to make them more adult and classy looking.

Items used:

  • 1 pkg. mini hair clips

  • Metallic acrylic paint (silver and/or gold)
  • Small plastic Jewels (Dollar Tree, 130 for $1)

  • Foam Paint brush

  • Strong glue (I used Amazing Goop)

I poured paint into a plastic juice can lid and then dipped the brush in until well saturated, then opened up the clip clamp and dabbed the paint on the inside of each clip, then allowed it to dry.

After the inside was dry, I painted the tops, just dabbing them to cover, but not so much as to gum up the the spring, then allowed that to dry.

Then paint the outside of the clips and allow to dry.

I did this three times for each clip to cover them uniformly.
I picked out the jewels that I wanted to use for each clip, then I put a dab of glue on one side then affixed the jewel to it and allowed it to dry and you are ready to rock and roll with them.

Garden Guardian Angel Ornament

Make a garden angel ornament using a clear plastic bottle and an angel ornament.
The inspiration for this project was the little plastic angel that did not make it back in the box when the Christmas items were put up and has been sitting on my desk for 6 months, but I have also seen ones at the dollar store that would work as well.
Items used:
  • Clear Plastic Bottle
  • Small Plastic or Glass Angel
  • Decorative Stones
  • 1 Large Jump ring
  • Gold Acrylic Paint
  • Small sponge brush
  • Cardboard
  • Clear Acrylic Spray (optional)
  • Caulk (I used a single use caulk)
  • Clear Glue (I used Amazing Goop)
  • Box Cutter
  • Craft Scissors
  • Push Pin

The bottle you use depends on the size of angel that you have as it needs to be able to fit in the bottom. Remove the labels from the clear plastic bottle.

Paint top of the lid of the bottle with the gold paint. When dry spray with the clear acrylic sealant.

Paint a cross on the cardboard using a brush, allow it to dry then cut it out.

Flip it over and paint the other side.

For this side, which is the side I used facing out, I textured the paint by dabbing it with the sponge brush and squishing it down.

Use a box cutter (I tried using a regular knife and it was not sturdy enough and scratch the front) to start a cut along about an inch from the bottom, then use the craft scissors to cut the shape of a door.

This is what it will look like when you are done.

Put the cross in the bottle (you may have to trim it to fit).

Apply the clear glue to the edges to hold the cross in place.

Squeeze the caulk into the bottom of the bottle and distribute it evenly using the end of the sponge brush.

I put a decorative stone on the back of each edge of the bottle.

Put the angel in the bottle and press it down slightly into the caulk.

Use a push pin to make a hole in the door and a hole just to the right of the door.

Put the large jump ring through the hole and bend to close and you are done.

I put mine out on a piece of marble and put 4 decorative stones in the front, but you could put it wherever you like.

BLOOMING TOTE BAG

For Earth Day Walgreens gave out tote bags with a purchase I got the tote bag below. It was a little too plain for my tastes so I decided to turn it into a blooming tote bag covered with flowers. This is what it looked like before: Some of the flowers I have made with links to tutorials at the following: http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/05/fabric-flowers.html http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/05/felty-flower.html http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/sunflower_facinator Others are misc. creations and a few of the flowers and the leaves were left over from my "Spring In A Jar" project. Some of the felt flowers were made using 9001 glue, others were hand-stitched. All of the flowers were attached to the bag with a hot glue gun. Items used:
  • Tote bag
  • Fabric or felt (to make the flowers)
  • Artificial flowers
  • 9001 glue
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors

Christmas ornament to ornamental pin

This is a just a Christmas ornament in the shape of a musical note that I found for fifty cents at a thrift store that I made into an ornamental pin to wear. Gather the items you are going to use for your project. I used:
  • Christmas ornament
  • Strip of sequins by the yard from my stash
  • Split jump ring
  • Pin Back
  • Scissors
  • 9001 Clear Glue
  • Fabric paint (optional - I used two dabs of glow in the dark paint on two of the stones for added interest)

Attach the split ring to the top of the ornament, then to the center of the pin. Put the glue on top of the pin the put a strip of sequins on the top and press down firmly, then let dry.
