Redkin's Tips for Hair Color, Cut, Style and Fashion Tips

Source: redken.com via Kathryn on Pinterest

I am posting this to share a short article on Redkin's site by celebrity haircolorist Tracey Cunningham and fashion stylists MAC+MIR that give you quick tips for hair color, cut, style and fashion tips based on your face shape by picking which of the six shapes shown that best reflect your face shape.

As trying to do the the picture in the mirror thing to show mine made me realize I need to clean off the area around the sink as there isn't a square inch of counter top to be seen I instead pulled an older picture back from my bleached blond days at Cedar Point (an amusement park) that best shows I am an "Inverted Triangle"

It advised having it darker at the temples and lighter from the chin on down and having fullness around the jawline and fashion tips like wearing scarves.

While we all know that black roots on blond hair are not attractive, I have found since I have gone back to dark hair that retouching the graying roots that are coming in with a shade that is one shade darker than the rest of my hair does seem to make my wide forehead not look quite a wide.

I did notice there was a typo in the "Circle" section under fashion tip where I am sure they meant to say "necklines" and instead typed "snecklines" but it did give me a chuckle imagining what a "sneckline" might be.

Bejeweled Mini Hair Clips

Turn dollar store mini hair clips from littly girly to glitzy glam with some paint, jewels and glue.
There are several hairstyles that I want to try where I need several small pins or clips, but the only ones that I found were the kind for little girls and in multi-colors which would clash with most of my outfits, so I decide to glam them up to make them more adult and classy looking.

Items used:

  • 1 pkg. mini hair clips

  • Metallic acrylic paint (silver and/or gold)
  • Small plastic Jewels (Dollar Tree, 130 for $1)

  • Foam Paint brush

  • Strong glue (I used Amazing Goop)

I poured paint into a plastic juice can lid and then dipped the brush in until well saturated, then opened up the clip clamp and dabbed the paint on the inside of each clip, then allowed it to dry.

After the inside was dry, I painted the tops, just dabbing them to cover, but not so much as to gum up the the spring, then allowed that to dry.

Then paint the outside of the clips and allow to dry.

I did this three times for each clip to cover them uniformly.
I picked out the jewels that I wanted to use for each clip, then I put a dab of glue on one side then affixed the jewel to it and allowed it to dry and you are ready to rock and roll with them.

Fimo Hair Sticks

These were inspired by Fimo Hair Stick made by opposites-girl over at Cut Out And Keep. Other users who had made these said that the sticks slipped, so I used my fingernail to put grooves into one side before baking so they will stay in my hair. The cost was probably around 50 cents for two sticks because I had the safety pin and beads already. Fimo Clay - $1.29 (I used less than 1/3 of the block to make these) Saftey Pins - on hand Beads - on hand
I noticed in the rear view mirror they sort of looked like little safety pin devil horns bouncing around of my head. They also did not roll out to be as uniform as I had hopes and it turned out I bought "soft" Fimo instead of regular and they are a little to pliant even after baking.
I may wear them on occassion (like around the house or to the store) but overall, not happy with the outcome.
