DIY ONE SHOULDER ONE MINUTE NO SEW WRAP DRESS

The above fabulous idea is from another blogger that I follow, Kristen at Glitter 'N Glue.   She made the dress using two yards of fabric and only took her about a minute to wrap and tie for an on-trend, summery look.

This would be easy to duplicate as no sewing required, although when I think I will put a small hem on the unfinished edges at the top and bottom.   Kristen spent $10 to make this, but if you have a Walmart in your area that still carries fabric, they sometimes have cute, lightweight prints for between $1.50 - $3.00 a yard.

She does wear a tube dress underneath, but I would probably wear a bustier or strapless bra (as I would be to jiggly at the top without them) and pair with half slip underneath.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, but between computer problems, vehicle problems and my my son's father being in the hospital just have not had time.  Hopefully things will calm does in the in the next few weeks and I can get back to creating, crafting and cooking.

Hope everyone has a Happy Leap Year Day:)

Scrappy Bracelet

This is for Day 23 of 30 Days of Creativity and today's theme is "Plaid".

I decided to craft a bracelet based on this tutorial by Peekadot for a scrappy bracelet, but instead of using a purchased bracelet, I used a hot knife on a water bottle to cut a 1/2 strip from it.  I then using scraps of plaid fabric about 1/2 inch wide and glue gun and wrapped the fabric around the plastic strip to make this no cost bracelet.

Leaves Headband

Direct link to project  Leave Headband

I made this to be a fun fall themed headband, but it could be used as part of "Mother Nature" or "Fall Fairy" costume.

I made this using a pack of silk "leaves" from the Dollar Store and a fabric headband that was approximately 1 1/2 inches wide at its widest point, but it would be easy to make your own leaves out of scraps of fabric on hand and have included a pattern and instructions for that also.

REVAMPED FANNY PACK

See Revamped Fanny Pack and 1000's of others - or share your own on Cut Out + Keep

I had planned on purchasing a fanny pack to use on a trip to an amusement park but my son dug out one he had used when he was younger. When I mentioned it was ugly and would clash my outfit (it was the orange as shown in the second picture) he said "you could always paint it" - so that is what I did.  I painted it with purple acrylic paint, sprayed it with clear acrylic spray paint and also added a flower to make it more girly.

I posted the steps on how I did this over at Cut Out and Keep at the link above

Blooming Tote Bag - version

Just because making fabric and felt flowers is addictive and I need something to put them on. All of the flowers that I made on this are put together using hot glue. The frog at the bottom is a scrap left over from another project, as are the artificial flowers.

BLOOMING TOTE BAG

For Earth Day Walgreens gave out tote bags with a purchase I got the tote bag below. It was a little too plain for my tastes so I decided to turn it into a blooming tote bag covered with flowers. This is what it looked like before: Some of the flowers I have made with links to tutorials at the following: http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/05/fabric-flowers.html http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/05/felty-flower.html http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/sunflower_facinator Others are misc. creations and a few of the flowers and the leaves were left over from my "Spring In A Jar" project. Some of the felt flowers were made using 9001 glue, others were hand-stitched. All of the flowers were attached to the bag with a hot glue gun. Items used:
  • Tote bag
  • Fabric or felt (to make the flowers)
  • Artificial flowers
  • 9001 glue
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors

Personalized Purple Satin Tote Bag

This is a personalized tote bag for my grand-niece for her birthday to carry around all of her toys and goodies.
  • Purple Satin Tote Bag - $1
  • 1/8 yd lavender organza (.44 cents)
  • 1/16 yd lavender tulle (.12 cents)
  • Thread - on hand
  • Scissors - on hand
  • Needle
  • Violet Glitter Fabric Paint on hand

Total cost: $1.56 + tax

The purple tote bag is from The Dollar Store. The flower fabric I make using lavender organza for the petals using the tutorial below.

The center is lavender tulle that is about 1 1/2 wide and 8 inches long folded in half horizontally then folded accordian style then tied in the center with thread and with the thread wrapped around the bottom and stitched to the inside of the petals on the above flower.
The name and embellishments are in violet glitter fabric paint.

FABRIC FLOWERS

I first saw this over at Cut Out and Keep by user Janessa M. and knew decide I wanted to try to for my Walmart tote upgrade project I am working on.
The tutorial on how to make this is at:
For this "flower" I cut and 3x3 in. square of fabric, folded diagonally into a triangle and basted the raw edges then pulled the thread taught to make a petal, then did the same thing 4 more times, then sewed the petals together.
For the center, I took a scrap of fleece and cut it into a 2 in circle then basted 1 inch in and pulled it slightly to give it more dimension in the center, then hand stitched it to the petals.
The first attempt was a little rough, but I plant on making more. This was fun and easy and something I can do while on break at work or watching television as it all hand sewn.

SUNFLOWER FASCINATOR

This was made with scraps and leftovers from other projects. Items needed:
  • Fabric
  • Button
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Needle
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Glue Stick
  • Hair Clip

Cut 12 petal shapes - sort of like an Conehead Easter Egg shape - into the fabric (I folded my fabric over several times then cut several shapes at once).  Note: The button that I used for this project in the picture below is a DIY Dorset button made out of the plastic ring off of a milk jug and scrap of fabric. The tutorial is here: http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/04/diy-fabric-buttons.html

Fan out into a basic flower shape with 6 of the petals, then put the other six petal in between the lower layer of petals.

Hand stitch the petals together at the base all the way around until you come back to the first petal, then pull the thread taut to pull all petals towards the center.

Stitch the button to the flower. Use the hot glue gun to glue the hair clip to the back of the fascinator.

I made this awhile back, but I am linking it up on  Blue Cricket Design's "Show and Tell" Wednesdays as we could all use a little bit of Spring in our lives and I always think of Spring when I see sunflowers.   There are lots of other cool projects linked up - click over on the hyperlink to check them out and happy crafting!

FUN FABRIC FLOWER FACINATOR MADE WITH DIY DORSET SINGLETON BUTTON

I had originally planned to make something more elaborate, but working full time and my ex still recovering from surgery and staying with us until he recouperates, I ran out of time. This quick and simple last minute project is a melding of old ideas with new technology and will go with a red dress that I have that has obnoxiously large cheery red flowers on it. The tutorial for the button in the center is based on the following, except I used a plastic ring off of a soda bottle instead of a plastic ring. http://www.craftstylish.com/item/42746/how-to-make-singleton-buttons I made the button using the plastic ring off of a plastic soda bottle and then cut a yellow scrap of fabric in a circle and hand stitched around the edges the pulled the string (like you do when you are making a fabric yo-yo) and then hand stitched just inside the inner edge all the way around the inside of the button then stitch up the button's back. To make the facinator flower, I used a scrap of red glitter nylon net about 6-8 inches wide and folded it into 8 inch squares, then sewed the button on the middle, then cut the petal into the flower, then I hand stithced the button to the fabric. I then used a hot glue gun to hot gule the flower to a hair clip.
