ALIEN ABDUCTION NITE LITE

(Picture with the lights off and spaceship light on) My inspiration for this project was Heather of Dollar Store Crafts creation: http://dollarstorecrafts.com/2009/03/alien-lamp/comment-page-1/#comment-1241 except I made mine is a nite lite with a mini touch light from the Dollar Tree, made Shaun The Sheep to be abducted by aliens and my space ship is removeable and can "fly" off on its own (picked up by the string). While Shaun the Sheep is larger than the ship and it doesn't seem like it would be possible for the UFO to abduct him, keep in mind it is alien advanced technology at work here. The components for this are:

• UFO made from Dollar Store items (be sure to save the plastic covering off of the mini-touch light as it will be glued to the top of the glass) http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/04/ufo-from-dollar-store-and-upcycled.html
• Shaun The Sheep - here is a link to the how-to that I posted at Cut Out and Keep -http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/shaun_the_sheep_2 or you could use a small plastic animal or a small action figure.
• Glass (this one is a plastic one from Dollar Tree is clear with green around the top that gives it an eerie glow).
• Forest Gren Felt (for the grass)
• Plastic lid (to glue the "grass" on to)
• 9001 glue or other strong, clear glue
• 12 oz can of soda
• Pen
• Scissors

Trim the edge off the outside of the covering off of the mini-touch light.

Apply glue to the bottom of the glass then place the plastic off of the mini touch light upside down on it like so:

Put a 12 oz can of soda or other soft drink (I guess you could use a beer if you were so inclined) on inside the top off the mini-touch light and allow the glue to dry. Put the lid on the felt and use a pen to trace around the circumference, then cut out the felt where you traced. Turn the lid upside down, apply glue and then place the felt in the center and smooth it down. Place Shaun or whatever critter that is to be considered for abduction in the center of the lid, then place the glass over the top of them and put the spaceship inside the the top off of the mini-touch light and you have yourself an Alien Abduction Nite Lite! STARSHIP ENTERPRISE FROM OLD FLOPPY DISC

This is a present for my son's Dad as he is in the hospital and I made this for him as he used to be a Trekkie - when we were married he had the "no talking during Star Trek" rule. I think he get a kick out of this and I could put in on an elastic cord and put it in his truck to hang of the rearview mirror, but I will see if he wants to do with after I give it to him. Items needed:

• 3 1/2 inc floppy disc
• Glue gun
• Silver metallic paint (the kind used on model cars)
• Kitchen Scissors (I bought mine at the Dollar store)

This based on the following project, except that I left the metal media in the center it is painted. http://www.asciipr0n.com/archive/0013/bonnie/craft/

• First, pry the metal part off of the bottom of the disc - if comes off fairly easy. This will be the bottom part of your space ship.

• Pry open the disc (I was able to do it with my hands, but if it is sealed well, you could use the tip of the scissors to pry it open at the bottom) and remove the shiny plastic disc from the middle as is will the top part of the starship. (I kept the out plastic part and will use it to make a Christmas Tree Ornament - here is the link to it that I posted at CO+K http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/christmas_ornament_from_old_computer_disc). You could go ahead and paint the disc now and it would be probably be easier than trying cover over where you have glued down parts.
• Use the scissor to make a cut at the bottom of the skinny metal strip on each side.
• Bend the skinny metal strips to away from each other.
• Bend down the wide part of the metal on each side.
• Make a small cut into in the metal part between the bottom part the the "wings" that you created by bending back the skinny strips at the top (in the photo I have the wide part in my hand and the skinny strips are on the left hand side of the picture - I photographed it backwards by mistake). I made the cut halfway down, but if I had it to do over, I would make the cut closer to the top of the skinny metal part.
• Temporarily bend the skinny strips back together to insert them through the wide hole in the metal disc and insert the disc into the area where you have made the small cut. Apply hot glue to both sides of the skinny metal and the top part of above where you inserted the disc into the center.
• 
• Firmly press the parts down on opposite sides,
• Paint the disc with the silver metallic paint (if you didn't do so right after taking the disc out of the floppy disc case.
•
