Version of "Personalized" Photo Plate - Maxx

This is a version of the http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2010/03/personalized-face-plate.html that I made for my son for his dog that went to heaven recently.

I purchased the plate at the Dollar Tree and made drew the picture, but it did not "sink" into the plate like the previous one that I had made, maybe due to it being a high gloss finish to begin with???  I tried "curing" the plate in the oven on 250 degrees for a few hours, yet, when it cooled I still could easily scrub off the picture.

I chose to put a clear coat of paint on it and deemed it for "decoration only" to preserve the image and gave my son the option of keeping it as a plate to for decoration in his room or find out if he wanted to include it on the gravesite of his dog...he still has not decided, but what I can say is if you want to make a personalized face plate, chose a plate that does not have a high gloss on it to paint your image.

DOGGY LOVE PHOTO FRAME

This project used a Dollar Store frame and some scrapbook stickers to display my son's favorite pic of his dog back when they were both youngsters.
Items you need are:
  • A favorite photo
  • A picture frame
  • Scrapbook stickers of whatever the theme of your picture is
  • Acrylic paint (in the color you prefer)
  • Scissor (to crop the photo)
  • Beading wire (optional - to make a loop on the back of the frame to hang it up)
Take glass out of frame and paint the frame the color of your choice (I used black gloss). After the paint is dry, stick on the stickers around the frame. Select the photo you want to use (preferable the same size of the photo or a larger one that you can crop to fit. If you need to crop the photo, place the glass on the photo and move it around until you get get what looks best, then trace around the frame and cut the picture out (For Mother's Day, Walgreens offered free 8X10 reprints and I had the pic blown up then trimed it to fit the 5X7 frame).
Optional: If the hangers on the back of the picture are too small to fit what you want to hang to secure the picture, create a loop with the jewelry wire and loop it through the hanger then twist off the ends.

Scotty Dog Scarf

My inspiration was this little stuffed Scotty Dog at "Cut Out And Keep" by Mrs. T.
Instead of making a stuffed Scotty Dog, I cut out the pieces and appliqued him to to a scarf. To make the scarf, I bought 1/2 yd. of fleece (most instructions only call for 1/4 yd., but this wider scarf you can use to tie around your head in extreme cold and it will keep the back of your neck covered to), cut about 1/4 inch at both ends then cut fringe up to one of the lines on both side of the fabric. (Cost for fabric - just under $2.00).
The Scotty dog himself is made from scraps of fabric from other projects and I cut the coat at the top and had to make some minor adjustments, then I hand stitched him on. Instead of cutting out the fabric bow, I used ribbon I already had and ties it around his neck on each dog.
I bought a pack of 100 different sized googly eyes in a packet for $1 and used the medium size and hand stitched them on also (you just poke 2 holes in the back of the eyes before you sew them on and use white thread.
I bought black fabric paint (.97 cents) and outlined him to cover up the hand stitching and I used coral fabric paint that I already had on hand for his nose. The total cost was under $4 and I still have 99 googly eyes and the black fabric paint left over for other projects.
