Cheap and Easy DIY Tassel Earrings

These simple tassel earring only took about 10 minutes to make and cost practically nothing to make.

Items used:
  • Crochet thread (or embroidery thread would be pretty)
  • Scissors
  • Matchbox
  • Pencil
  • Hot Glue gun and glue sticks
  • 2 gold 10mm jump rings
  • 2 gold ear wires
  1. Line thread up with the bottom of matchbox lengthwise and wrap 15 times then cut thread.
  2. Place a small dab of hot glue across the back 1/4 of an inch down to secure the threads.
  3. Push the threads off of the matchbox and on to a pencil at the top.
  4. Use a piece of thread (8 inches or more) and tie around the earrings tassel and knot in the back, tie a knot and then continue wrapping around and knotting in the back.  Clip ends.
  5. Remove pencil, open jump ring and thread through the loop and the ring at the end of the ear wire and close.
  6. Cut threads at the bottom end
This is  for Day 12 with the theme of "String" for 30 Days of Creativity.

FREE 1928 EARRINGS - JUST PAY $5 SHIPPING

Deal spotted at Coupon Katrina

I love vintage and vintage looking jewelry and was excited to see that 1928 Jewelry currently had a promotion where you can get your choice of the above 4 earrings free (retail value $18) - just pay $5.00 shipping now through October 4th.

I just ordered a pair of the black and I was able to use my Paypal account and did not have disclose my credit card information, which always makes me more comfortable in dealing with a company I have not ordered from before.

While I plan on wearing them for everyday, they would also be a great accessory to any vintage outfit of gypsy costume for Halloween.

Disclaimer:  I received nothing for this post - it is a deal offered to everyone that I wanted to share.

Steak N Shake Earrings

This is part of 30 Days of Creativity initiative and the theme today, Day 7 is "Fashion" (I am still finishing up Day 6 "Argyle" and will post when completed).  I decided to make a pair of earring based on the same concept as the Soda Can Earrings I had made previously.  The only difference is that instead of dimes I used quarters and instead of part of a can I used stickers that come with a Steak N Shake kids meal car to use on the "wheels" of the car, but any round sticker would work.    For the tutorial see Soda Can Earrings.

Another to-do project: Copycat of Marc Jacobs tassel earrings

Here is another to-do project that I have been meaning to get around to and still haven't yet. I saw the how-to on Carbon Couture's website. It is a pair of copy cat of Marc Jacobs Spring 2009 collection earrings. http://carboncouture.blogspot.com/2009/01/no-hassle-tassels.html I saw these a few weeks ago on this site and even have bought several of the components to make them, but just still scrounging around for the rest of them. The earrings on the left are from the Marc Jacobs collection and the earrings on the right are the knock offs.
  • I didn't find tassels, but at Walmart I found some black fringe and bought an 1/8th of a yard for under 45 cents.
  • I found 100 gold saftey pins at Dollar Tree for $1
  • Gold bead cap for the top of the earrings on clearance at Hancock Fabric for 20cents
  • 100 silver beads off of Ebay for $1.47 (will use them instead of the small black beads)
  • Clear beads of an old dollar store watch

Now just need some small gold bead, ear post and gold head pin. My goal is to keep this project under $3 for the earrings, so I am likely to scrounging a bit more.
