Koolaid Man Pitcher Pencil Holder

A fun accent for a desk that even kids can make!

This was inspired by Rock Candy Eyes over a "Koolaid Man" pencil holder.
http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/recycled-can-food-tin-kool-aid-man-pencil-holder

Mine is a little different as I used spray paint instead of acrylic paint, a Sharpie instead of black acrylic paint and added a handle for the pitcher.   I used pink to represent pink lemonade flavor.

Items used:
  • Tin Can
  • Cardboard
  • Spray Paint
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie
  • Paper
  • Strong glue or Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Remove label and clean off can - I soaked mine overnight first and it made it easier to get the label off.

Measure two pieces of cardboard.  One will be 1/2 inch wide and 3 1/2 inches long.  The other will be 1/2 inch wide and 1 inch long.  Mark then cut.

On the long piece of cardboard, bend each edge under 1/2 inch then bend it.

Use the glue on the short piece and glue the big piece to the little piece.

Glue the "handle" to the can.

Outside or in well ventilated area, put down a piece of cardboard and spray paint the can inside and out and allow to dry.  I did this three times to get an even coat and full coverage.

Draw a Koolaid face on a piece of paper then cut out and the face and use it as a template for the can.  I made mine 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 and it turned out a little larger than I had planned - you might want to try 3x3.

Use the black Sharpie to drawn the face on the can using the paper template then finish coloring in.

$110 Designer Inspired Headband for under $1

This is based on the tutorial over at Carbon Couture of her designer Eugenia Kim's "Wallis" inspired headband without the $110 price tag.   I love the cartoon like quality and I made mine for under $1.

The tutorial is here:  http://carboncouture.blogspot.com/2010/01/buckle-up.html

  • Headband
  • 1 square yellow felt
  • Black Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Hot Glue Gun

I used an old headband that was 1 inch wide. To draw on the felt I drew it on the diagonal just like in the tutorial, but I put a 1 inch wide and drew on either side with the Sharpie on the wrong side of the felt.

Instead of using a 2 inch wide ribbon, as I didn't have any, I glued 1 inch of black ribbon on each side using the glue gun. I followed the rest of the tutorial and used dot of glue at one end of the headband and stretched the felt to the other side of the headband and dabbed that edge down, then ran a thin line on either side of the headband, cut off the excess (except for about a 1/4th of inch on each end) and glued the ribbon down.

Next I drew the buckle on one side of the headband then added a line on either side then "stitching" and belt holes.

Fairy House - Funky and with Flowers

Here is another fairy house for the garden under my eaves and for this one, I decided to make it funkier and with flowers. The link to the original project and link to the original inspiration at Filth Wizardry is here: http://craftsandcreationswithkathy.blogspot.com/2009/07/fairy-house.html For this project I used markers and green fabric paint to decorate, along with gluing on silk flowers and leaves to the cap, then sprayed everything with clear acrylic glue.
