GOTHIC ROSE TRASHION NECKLACE

See Gothic Rose Trashion Necklace and 1000's of others - or share your own on Cut Out + Keep

This is for Day 27 of 30 Days of Creativity for the theme "Extinct Media".  As I have lots of old VHS tapes around the house I decided to craft a necklace using the magnetic tape inside the cassette.

The finished necklace looks much better in purpose because the shiny surfaces catches and refracts the light.

2 GNOME ME IS TO LOVE ME

This is for day Day 24 of 30 Days of Creativity for the theme "Gnomes".

I have a hatred of lawn gnomes so no way was I going to go that route, so instead I decided to use my "Let's Make T-Shirts" program and a free clip art from http://www.gnurf.net/v3/clip-art/free-clip-art-010.html
for the Gnome to design a punny play on words "To (Gnome a/k/a know me) is to heart (love) me to printout and iron on night shirt.

After ironing on, I embellished it with red fabric paint.  At some point I will post at Cut Out + Keep along with a free download of the design both regular and for t-shirts (which is a mirror backwards image so the lettering comes out right when ironed on).

Scrappy Bracelet

This is for Day 23 of 30 Days of Creativity and today's theme is "Plaid".

I decided to craft a bracelet based on this tutorial by Peekadot for a scrappy bracelet, but instead of using a purchased bracelet, I used a hot knife on a water bottle to cut a 1/2 strip from it.  I then using scraps of plaid fabric about 1/2 inch wide and glue gun and wrapped the fabric around the plastic strip to make this no cost bracelet.

PARMESAN TORTILLA CRIPS

This is for Day 21 of 30 Days of Creativity www.30dayofcreativity.com and today's theme is "Cheese".  I chose to try a recipe from One Perfect Bite to make Parmesan Tortilla Chips and they came out tasty more like crackers than chips, but would be a fun soup topper.

I stuck pretty much to the recipe except that I used 8 inch flour instead of 6 inch corn tortilla and used sea salt.  I also recommend checking at 6-8 minutes instead of 12 minutes as the first batch was too toasted and I ended up throwing it out.

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 12 6 or 8 inch tortillas
  • 1 cup fresh shredded Parmesan
  • 1/4 to 1/2 sea salt
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

"Line two large heavy large baking sheets with aluminum foil. Whisk oil, oregano, and pepper in a small saucepan over medium heat just until warm. Set aside for 15 minutes.

Brush oil mixture over both sides of tortillas.

Stack tortillas and cut them into 1/2 to 3/4-inch wide strips. Arrange strips in a single layer over the baking sheets. Sprinkle cheese and salt over strips. Bake until strips are golden brown and crisp" about 6-8 minutes.

Yield: 5 to 6 servings.

Miu Miu Inspired Rhinestone Embellished Flats

This is for Day 18 of the 30 Days of Creativity www.30daysofcreativity.com and the theme today is "Feet". I had seen the tutorial for these over at Chic Steals where she showed her version of the $745 shoes Miu Miu was selling that she made for $15 and I decide to spiff up and old scuffed pair of shoes except I left off the smaller rhinestones because I didn't have any on hand. This is what they looked like before:

Picnic Themed Trashion Necklace

This picnic themed necklace for Day 13 "Picnic" theme for 30 Days of Creativity www.30daysofcreativity.com.  When I think of picnics I think of gingham table cloths, plastic utensils, 2 liter bottles of sodas and ants.

Fortunately, I had all of the item in my stash and it is is made entirely of recycled/upcycled material except for the crochet thread holding it together and glue from a hot glue gun.

The ant is off a purchased cake, the fabric "bead' from scraps of two different types of gingham, a washed knife and spork, two diet coke caps.   I have now posted a "How To" over at Cutout + Keep
and would love to see any inspired pieces that someone else would come up with.

I was excited to see this featured on One Pretty Thing

Geeky Chic Einstein Inspired Necklace

This is for Day 13 of 30 Days of Creativity www.30daysofcreativity.com and today's theme is Albert Einstein and decided to make this necklace using the circuit board of an old remote and gold dimensional paint with the obvious "E=mc2" but to the side of that add the elemental symbol, number and atomic weight of Einsteinium, which is name after Albert Einstein and is and artificially produced radioactive element and the 99 of the Periodic table of elements, represented by the letters Es and an atomic weight of 252 then sprayed it with a clear coat.

The black part of the necklace is part of an old keyboard cord from a keyboard I salvaged.

To further represent the Einsteinium I made two beads out of polymer clay using a small straw to make the hole in one and made it big enough on one end for the cord and the shape of the plug on the other bead and a partial hole with a small straw on the other side then baked for 15 minutes, let cool and then painted with red spray paint.  To give it a radioactive effect I used green glow-in-the-dark fabric paint and painted over the red.

I used two headpins and twisted them then put them in the other side of the bead and secured with high strength adhesive.  I added a few jump rings on the the circuit board and then connected them to to head pins.

I used two headpins and bent them to resemble coils to attach to the ends of the circuit board.

Lincoln Penny Picture Frame

This project is for Day 12 of 30 Days of Creativity http://30daysofcreativity.com/ and the theme is Abraham Lincoln.  As he is on the US penny, I decided to decorate an 8 x 10  picture frame using 52 pennies and some E6000 craft glue.

Here is the frame before applying the pennies:

I have posted a tutorial for this project over at Cut Out + Keep

Crayon Rubbing

This is for 30 Days of Creativity www.30daysofcreativity.com and today's theme is crayons and it is almost midnight so I decided to go with a crayon rubbing, which is placing a piece of paper on top of a textured object and rubbing a crayon (usually an exposed crayon with the label torn off and it horizontally over the top of the object.

This is a rubbing of a small Halloween decorative tombstone using a glitter black crayon - while on its own the quality is such it that I would not consider displaying it, but love the idea for repeating the pattern and using larger paper to make into a Halloween gift wrap or decoration.

Cow Belle

This is for Day 9 of 30 Day of Creativity http://30daysofcreativity.com/ and the theme is "Cow Bell".  When I was brainstorming trying to come up with ideas, my son suggested this and I loved the idea and it is going to be our new outdoor decoration underneath the eaves.

I cut the top off a 2 liter soda bottle using a hot knife and then painted it gold with spray paint.  I added a little tutu to make the cow more girly and into a "belle" and tied a piece of crochet thread around the neck and two pop tabs for clangers and then screwed the top over the thread to secure it.  I added a bow to dress it up and for the hanger a Christmas ornament hanger used a piece of metal tape to secure it.

I have also posted this at Cutout + Keep

Toast Art - Self Portrait

For Day 10 of http://30daysofcreativity.com/ the theme is "toaster" so I decided to make a toast art self-portrait using http://www.breadartproject.com/#/workshops.  You select from 4 different type of bread, upload a photo an "toast it" or draw a picture or write a phrase and leave as is or "toast" them.

UNDER 1 MINUTE MAKEOVER FOR A CHAIR

This is for Day 8 of 30 Days of Creativity http://30daysofcreativity.com/
and the theme is "recycle".

This computer chair was dumpster bound due to tears in the fabric/staining but given a makeover in less than a minute and requires no special skills.

It is accomplished using a King sized pillow sham (bought on clearance at Walmart for $1).  All you have to do is open one of the back flaps, shimmy it over the back of the chair and you are done!

T Shirt To Argyle Drop Waist Dress

See T Shirt To Argyle Drop Waist Dress and 1000's of others - or share your own on Cut Out + Keep

This is for http://30daysofcreativity.com/ and the theme was "Argyle" so I decided to turn a toddler t-shirt into a dress for http://www.dressagirlaroundtheworld.com/howyoucanhelp.htm, which is a non-profit organization that accepts donations of homemade dresses for little girls around the world who don't have one.

As I had only seen Argyle in solid colors before I decided to try with print fabric and stitching instead and attached a skirt in coordinating fabric, putting a decorative black stitch at the hem.  It was simple and fun to make.

I have posted a tutorial over at Cut Out + Keep

Steak N Shake Earrings

This is part of 30 Days of Creativity initiative and the theme today, Day 7 is "Fashion" (I am still finishing up Day 6 "Argyle" and will post when completed).  I decided to make a pair of earring based on the same concept as the Soda Can Earrings I had made previously.  The only difference is that instead of dimes I used quarters and instead of part of a can I used stickers that come with a Steak N Shake kids meal car to use on the "wheels" of the car, but any round sticker would work.    For the tutorial see Soda Can Earrings.

George W. Bush Panties

Today for 30 Days of Creativity the theme "Unibrow".   While Bert of Sesame Street was the first thing that popped into my mind, it seemed too easy and I wanted it be a bit more of a challenge, so I searched "Unibrow" on the internet and found a site called The Unibrow Club and they had a picture of George W. Bush, a former U.S. President, when he was younger sporting a unibrow and I decided to use that picture for my project.  I decided to stick with my upgraded undies again today as it is what I have on hand.

Items used:
  • 1 pair of panties
  • Printer
  • Iron on transfer paper
  • Black fabric paint
  • Iron
  • Scissors

I printed off the picture on iron on transfer paper - the unibrow didn't come through as clear as I hoped, but went with it anyway.  Per the instructions ironed the area of the fabric before ironing the photo.

I preheated the iron on the highest setting (with no water added for steam) and ironed on the picture per the instructions and let set for 30 minutes before removing the backing.

I then drew spikes around the photo with black fabric paint and wrote "George W." on the front wrote "Bush".

Vintage 50's Cat Inspired Panties

Photobucket
I am participating in 30 Days of Creativity and  just learned of it today and had to go with what I have on hand.  Today's theme is "Cat Meme", so I had a "make it work" moment and I decided for my inspiration to use a 50's cat decoration that my Mom used to have as an inspiration to decorate a pair of panties that I have (originally was going to do a notebook but could not find any scrapbook paper on hand that would work.)

Items used:
  • Full Panty (a/k/a "Granny Panties")
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • Marker
  • Scrap of black fabric
  • Heat 'N Bond
  • Iron
  • Scissors
  • Fabric paints

I drew the cat - it is about 6 1/4 inches tall and about 4 inches wide at the ears.

Iron a piece of Heat 'N Bond to a piece of 7x5 inch piece of black fabric on the wrong side of the fabric, then use the picture to make template and draw in marker on the Heat 'N Bond.  You end up with a negative of the picture.

Photobucket
Iron image on to object (in this case, panties).

Then use fabric paints to finish off the outside edges and draw eyes and ears (I used silver) and then fill the pupils (I used metallic green), the nose and mouth (I used metallic red) and then let dry then fill in whites of the eyes (I used a few layers of metallic "Glittering Crystal").  It seemed a little plain so I wrote "Cat's Meow" in silver.

No Sew $2 Dollar Store Tutu

Photobucket
This is tutu I made for my great niece Mia for her 3rd birthday out of two rolls of tulle from the Dollar Tree and 21 inches of elastic.

Items used:

  • 2 rolls of Tulle (from the Dollar Tree)
  • Elastic (waist measurement plus 1 inch

It is based on a prior tutu that I made (tutuorial here) except that it is much fuller and poofier. To get the fullness different lengths tulle ranging from 12 inches to 28 inches with increasing 4 inch intervals (12,16,20,24,28) were used and  I  about 10 of each.   I already had the elastic on hand.

Instead of sewing the ends together, I added 1 inch to the waist measurement and tied the ends together (she is skinny and they may have untie it to make it smaller).

I had hoped to get a picture of her trying it on, but she is independent and inquisitive and hard to keep up with.
